Plan Your Day

Get the most out of your Open House experience! Prepare for your visit with our helpful tips, including what to bring, how to plan your schedule, and ways to make the most of your time on campus.

see pages 7–11 in the agenda

Make time to visit your program’s information booth or drop-in session (look for the __ icon in the agenda) to meet current students, staff, and professors.

Great questions to ask:

  • What classes will I take in first year?
  • How does course registration work?
  • Should I buy textbooks before September?
  • What kinds of research can I get involved in during first year?

Tips for You: Keep an eye out for open labs, facility tours, and hands-on activities.

If you’re thinking about a Level II or III specialty, check whether lab spaces for those programs are open to explore!

see pages 5–6 in the agenda

Start with offerings that happen only once during the day — other sessions might be repeated. For example, there are two sessions about summer orientation programs, but only one about accessibility services and accommodations.

Check out the Belong @ Mac section in the agenda to see if any community offerings reflect your identity, interests, or needs.

There are many spaces to tour across campus — including seven residence buildings, three libraries, and our athletic centre. These are typically open until around 3:00 p.m.–3:30 p.m., so plan accordingly.

Our off-campus 10 Bay Residence will be offering tours from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Book your visit in advance using the tour link provided. Book your 10 Bay tour here (https://housing.mcmaster.ca/10bay-tours/)

Visit the Marketplaces at MUSC and The Hub (open from 10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.) to learn more about campus supports and services. This is a great time to ask questions between presentations.

Helpful questions to ask:

  • What opportunities are there to meet other students with similar interests or identities?
  • How can I get involved in clubs, sports, or volunteering?
  • What health and wellness supports are available to students?
  • What does a typical day look like for a first-year student?

Missed a session? No problem! About two weeks after May @ Mac, we’ll share recordings of most presentations so you can catch up or review information at your own pace.
