Walking Directions to Tour Check-In

Parking Lot Directions
L.R. Wilson Underground Parking:
  • Exit the North-facing doors onto Sterling Street
  • Turn left, and proceed West down Sterling
  • Turn right, at the stop sign, onto University Avenue
  • Continue down University Ave until you reach Gilmour Hall (on your right)
  • Proceed up the metal staircase and through two sets of doors
  • Turn left and continue down the hallway
  • Our office is the third door on your left: Gilmour Hall 102
Parking Lots B & C:
  • Enter the McMaster University Student Centre
  • Continue to the Gilmour Hall entrance, straight ahead (just past the Tim Hortons
  • Proceed up the stairs, making a left at the top of the stairs
  • Continue through the doors, making a left at the end of the hallway
  • Our office is the second door on your right: Gilmour Hall 102
Parking Lots B & C (Accessible Route):
  • Enter the McMaster University Student Centre
  • Proceed towards the ramp located in front of the Gilmour Hall entrance, past the Tim Hortons
  • Make your way to the elevators located to the left of the ’Compass Information Centre’ and proceed to the 2nd floor
  • Once on the 2nd floor, exit straight off the elevator continuing down the hallway ahead
  • Make a left hand turn at your first opportunity and pass through the double doors, signaling your entrance into Gilmour Hall
  • Locate the elevators on the right hand side and proceed to the 1st floor. On the 1st floor
  • Once on the 1st floor, exit to your right off the elevators
  • At the end of the hallway, turn left
  • Our office is the second door on your right: Gilmour Hall 102.
Stadium Underground Parking (Accessible):
  • Proceed South along Michell Crescent (bordering the athletics field)
  • At the stop sign, cross the street (Stearn Drive) and continue  up the stairs beneath Togo Salmon Hall
  • There is a ramp located to the left of the stairs for accessibility needs
  • Head straight across the courtyard, making a right hand turn just before the Student Centre
  • Proceed towards Chester New Hall
  • Enter Chester New Hall through the doors on your left
  • Follow the hallway and through the open doors, signaling your entrance into Gilmour Hall
  • Our office will be the fourth door on the right: Gilmour Hall 102

Visitor Parking Locations

It is highly recommended that you enter campus at the Sterling Street & Forsyth Avenue Entrance (185 Sterling Street, Hamilton, ON)not the Main Street West Entrance.

Once through the Sterling Street entrance, you have two options:

  1. TURN LEFT into L.R. Wilson Underground Parking
    • Take the first entrance on your left (after the median) to park underground
    • If the sign for this lot says “Visitor Closed,” please proceed to Option #2
  2. TURN RIGHT – Other Parking Lots: B, C & Stadium Underground Parking:
    • Turn right at the first available opportunity (Stearn Drive)
    • Parking Lots B & C will be on your left – signs will indicate visitor parking availability
      • If there are open visitor parking spaces, turn left at the fork and park in the available lot
    • If the signs for these lots say “Visitor Closed,” continue straight along Stearn Drive
    • Turn left at the stop sign in front of the Ivor Wynne Centre
    • Once you have passed the David Braley Athletic Centre on your right, turn right at the second stop sign onto Michell Crescent
    • Proceed straight along Michell Crescent
    • Follow the signs for the Stadium Parking (under the football field)
    • If the sign for Stadium Underground says “Visitor Closed,” you may proceed to Lot H

Note: The walk from the Stadium /Zone H to Gilmour Hall is approximately 5-7 minutes.

 

Driving Directions

  • For GPS purposes please use the intersection of Sterling St. & Forsyth Ave (185 Sterling Street, Hamilton, ON) as coordinates to guide you to the campus entrance.
  • We highly recommend using the Sterling Street Entrance as it is closest to the campus tour meeting location.
  • For transit options please review the Sustainability at McMaster website.

From Toronto / Oakville / Burlington

  • Travel westbound on the QEW or Highway 407.
  • In Burlington, take Highway 403 West to Hamilton (Downtown), Brantford.
  • Exit Highway 403 at the Main Street West (Exit 69A) off ramp.
  • At the traffic signal at the top of the ramp, turn left onto Main Street and turn immediately right (before Husky gas station) onto Newton Avenue.
  • As this street crosses King Street it becomes Sterling Street. Proceed up Sterling Street onto the McMaster campus. See parking details above.

From Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ)

  • DRIVING:
    • Exit the airport onto Highway 427 South. Exit Highway 427 onto the QEW toward Hamilton. Follow detailed directions for coming from Toronto (on left).
  • PUBLIC TRANSIT:
    • GO Transit Bus Route 40 (Westbound) from Terminal 1 (Ground Transportation Area).
      • This service is  direct link to Hamilton and Toronto Pearson International Airport.
      • The bus stops at Main Street West  at Paisley Avenue, which is a short walking distance (approx. 600 metres) to the entrance of McMaster’s campus.
    • GO Transit Bus Route 40 (Westbound) transfer to Route 47 (Westbound)
      • After boarding Route 40 (Westbound) at Terminal 1, exit the bus at Square One Mall in Mississauga
      • Transfer to Route 47
      • Route 47 terminates on McMaster’s Campus (western side).

From Hamilton International Airport (YHM)

  • DRIVING:
    • Exit the airport onto Highway 6 north, which connects to Highway 403 East.
    • Take Highway 403 eastbound (toward Toronto), and exit as described in the directions for coming from Brantford (on left).
  • PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION:
    • Board the Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) A-Line Bus toward Downtown Hamilton
    • Exit to the A-Line Bus King Street West, then connect any of the following westbound routes
      • 51 – University
      • 1A – King
      • 5 – Deleware
      • 5C – West Hamilton

From Brantford / London

  • Travel on Highway 403 East to the Aberdeen Avenue, Exit 69.
  • Turn left at the first traffic light (Longwood Road), then turn left onto Main Street West.
  • Turn right onto Newton Avenue (before Husky gas station).
  • As this street crosses King Street it becomes Sterling Street.
  • Proceed up Sterling Street onto the McMaster campus.

From Kitchener-Waterloo / Guelph / Cambridge

  • Take Highway 401 to Highway 6 South.
  • From Highway 6, exit on Highway 403 toward Hamilton.
  • Once in Hamilton, take the Main Street West (Exit 69A) off ramp.
  • At the traffic signal at the top of the ramp, turn left onto Main Street and turn immediately right (before Husky gas station) onto Newton Avenue.
  • As this street crosses King Street it becomes Sterling Street.
  • Proceed up Sterling Street onto the McMaster campus.

From the south Cambridge area, take Highway 8 to Hamilton:

  • Proceed through Dundas along King Street, which becomes Cootes Drive.
  • Turn left on Main Street West. Proceed along Main Street and turn left on Dalewood Ave.
  • Turn left on Sterling Street and proceed to the McMaster Campus.

From the Niagara Falls, ON / Niagara Penninsula / Buffalo, NY

  • Follow the QEW over the Burlington Skyway Bridge as though going to Toronto.
  • Take Highway 403 toward Hamilton, exit the highway at the Main Street West (Exit 69A) off ramp.
  • At the traffic signal at the top of the ramp, turn left onto Main Street and turn immediately right (before Husky gas station) onto Newton Avenue.
  • As this street crosses King Street it becomes Sterling Street.
  • Proceed up Sterling Street onto the McMaster campus.
