Most McMaster programs have enrollment limits and admission is by selection. Possessing the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission. Admission will be considered on a case-by-case basis and is not guaranteed.

Where do I apply?

Unless otherwise specified in the program information, applicants will apply for transfer using the online 105 application via the Ontario Universities Application Centre (OUAC). For all application dates and deadlines, plus information about any supplemental application requirements, please refer to the current Application Guide for McMaster University on the OUAC 105 application site.

English language proficiency

College transfer students may be required to pass an acceptable English language proficiency test.  Acceptable tests and their respective minimum score requirements, along with information on English Proficiency waivers, can be found on the English Language Proficiency page.

Program-specific information

Find the minimum admission requirements for the following Level I programs:

No admission based on college. Admission is by selection based on high school admission eligibility and Supplementary Application.

  1. Completion of a two or three-year diploma program in a related discipline with a minimum CGPA of 75- 80 per cent.

1. Applicants to the Bachelor of Technology Degree Completion Programs must demonstrate successful completion of a related, advanced three-year diploma from an Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology or equivalent, with a minimum CGPA of 75-77 per cent. January, May and September intake.

2. All applicants to the B.Tech. Degree Completion Programs are required to complete and submit an online supplementary form (in lieu of a resume) as part of the application/admission. You can find the form here.

3. Applicants with CGPA 70-74.99 per cent in related, three-year advanced diploma post-secondary academic programs may be admitted to the Certificate programs. Minimum requirements do not guarantee admission. Call (905)525-9140 ext. 20221 or visit the Engineering website.

4. Please note that applicants who graduated more than 10 years ago from related three-year advanced diploma post-secondary academic programs will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Completion of a two-year diploma program

  • Cumulative GPA of at least 80 per cent
  • Completion of at least two of the following Grade 12 math courses (or their McMaster recognized equivalents):
    • Advanced Functions (MHF4U)
    • Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U)
    • Mathematics of Data Management (MDM4U)

First priority will be given to students who have not failed, repeated and/or upgraded any course(s).

If successful, you will be admitted to Commerce I (first year). You may be eligible for up to 12 units of transfer credit (maximum).

2. Completion of a three-year diploma program

  • Cumulative GPA of at least 80 per cent
  • Completion of ALL of the following Grade 12 math courses (or their McMaster recognized equivalents):
    • Advanced Functions (MHF4U)
    • Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U)
    • Mathematics of Data Management (MDM4U)
  • Completion of the following university courses (or McMaster recognized equivalents):
    • Economics 1B03 (Micro Economics)
    • Economics 1BB3 (Macro Economics)
    • Commerce 1AA3 – Financial Accounting
    • Commerce 1BA3 – Organizational Behaviour
    • Math 1M03 (Calculus)

First priority will be given to students who have not failed, repeated and/or upgraded any course(s).

If successful, you will be admitted to Commerce II (second year). You may be eligible for up to 30 units of transfer credit (maximum).

Transferring from Mohawk’s Business Administration Advanced Diploma:

  • Graduates of Mohawk’s Business Administration Advanced Diploma with a weighted grade point average (GPA) of 77% (B+) are eligible to apply for the McMaster Bachelor of Commerce Program.
  • Completion of MDM4U, MHF4U, MCV4U, or recognized equivalents, is required. Eligible graduates will receive 60 credits towards the degree and must complete an additional 60 credits as specified by McMaster.

6. Transfer credit for completion of a three-year diploma may be considered for up to 30 units.

3. Applicants are considered for admission to the first-year Engineering 1 program and may be considered for up to 18 units of transfer credits.

4. Technician programs are not recognized as eligible for admission consideration to Engineering I.

In addition to high school requirements, applicants completing a two- or three-year college diploma who are also presenting a minimum CGPA of 88 per cent may be considered for 6 units of transfer credit.

No admission based on college. Admission by selection, based on secondary school and/or university eligibility and mandatory Multiple Mini Interview (MMI).

1. Completion of one year of a diploma program or completion of a one year certificate in a related discipline with a CGPA of 80 per cent and successful Music Audition.

2. Completion of a two-year diploma program or 2 years of a three-year diploma program with a minimum CGPA of 75 per cent and successful Music Audition. Transfer credit reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

3. Mohawk three-year Applied Music Diploma Graduates with a CGPA of 75 per cent may be considered for up to 63 units of transfer credit. Music Audition will be waived.

Admission is by selection. Supplementary Application is required along with completion of a one-year Pre-Health Science Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees program in full-time studies from one of the following Colleges:
